Sunday, Nov. 13, 7 p.m.

A Palestinian doctor who was raised in a refugee camp in Gaza, Dr. Abuelaish has been crossing the lines that divide Israelis and Palestinians for all his life – as a physician who treats patients on both sides of the line and as a humanitarian who sees the improved health and education for women as the way forward for the Middle East.  In 2009, during the Gaza War, Israeli shells killed three of his daughters and a niece.  Dr. Abuelaish made international news when he reached out to the public live on Israeli television, bringing his devastating loss home to Israeli audiences.  He astonished everyone by renewing his humanitarian call to work for peace.  In his book, Abuelaish does not set out a political solution to the conflict; he simply tells his own story.  Eli Wiesel called his story, “a necessary lesson against hatred and revenge.”

Dr. Abuelaish will speak in conversation with Prof. Mark Rosenblum, Director of the Center for Jewish Studies at Queens College.
