I dig up batteries, dead animals, white crumbling...not sure... Passers-by relieve themselves, workers dump paint scrapings and other construction debris. People discard all sorts of stuff in the Dunbar Gardens. Would I eat a vegetable grown here? No way. We table garden in the next block. In bought soil. That, I will eat from.

I grow my own produce in Queens and enjoy eating it. Why not eat something grown in NYC? Very green to do so.
