Where Is The Closest Memorial Day Parade?

Where can you go to honor the service of others today?

No city does Memorial Day quite like New York, with parades, festivities, and fleet week all coming together as a fitting salute to our veterans and those who gave their lives to defend our shores.

Here is a listing of just a handful of the parades happening in Queens and New York City on Memorial Day Weekend.

Forest Hills

This information is relayed from Barbara Stuchinski, president of the Forest Hills Community and Civic Association:

The annual American Legion Continental Post 1424 Parade will kickoff at Noon on Sunday, May 29 from Ascan & Metropolitan Avenues.  The Parade will proceed west along Metropolitan Avenue to Remsen Memorial Cemetery (buried there are Col. Jeromus Remsen, Major Abraham Remsen and Lt. Aurt Remsen who served in the Continental Army) where a ceremony will be held honoring those lost serving our country and protecting our freedom.

In attendance will be Medal of Honor Veteran Bob O'Malley, the Army Band and Marching units, the Navy Band and Fleet week military, retired Air Force General Kehoe, numerous Veterans organizations and Deputy Commissioner Clarice Joynes who is also a Veteran.  Elected Officials, a number of local ROTC units and Bands together with community groups will also participate.

Maspeth

The Maspeth Memorial Day Parade will start at 1 p.m. at Grand Avenue and 72nd Place in Maspeth.

Little Neck/Douglaston

The Little Neck and Douglaston parade starts at 2 p.m. on May 30, and will run from Lakevillle Road and Northern Boulevard down Northern until it reaches 244th Street.

Manhattan

The Annual Memorial Day Parade and Manhattan will kick off at 12 p.m., Monday, May 30 at Broadway and Dyckman Street in Manhattan. It is scheduled to last until 1 p.m.
