Website Releases Walkability, Biking Study for Five Boroughs

Forest Hills, Rego Park and several other local communities rank in the top 100 for walkability, transit options and biking.

A website that ranks the most walkable cities and neighborhoods in the United States has released its annual rundown of which communities in the five boroughs are easiest to travel by foot or bike.

Forest Hills and several nearby communities all ranked in the top 100 out of a total 256 New York City neighborhoods.

Forest Hills Gardens was ranked 82nd on the list with a 92 percent walkability score.

The community also received an 88 percent for its transit options, but 51 percent for bikeability.

Rego Park came in at 80 with a 92 percent walkability score, a 74 percent for transit and 51 percent for biking.

Kew Gardens was ranked 87th with a 91 percent walkability score, an 87 percent for transit options and a 53 percent bikeability score.

Forest Hills came in at 92 with a 90 percent for walkability. Its transit option score was 77 percent, while its biking rating was 52 percent.

Kew Gardens Hills was the only nearby community that did not break the top 100. That community came in at 136 with an 83 percent walkability score. For transit, it received a 61 percent and, for biking, a 59 percent score.

Manhattan’s Little Italy and Chinatown came in first place, while Rikers Island was dead last and, not so surprisingly, unfriendly for biking.

Walk Score wrote that New York is the nation’s most walkable city with “excellent transportation.” It also ruled that the five boroughs were “somewhat bikeable.”
