New Austin Street Trees Possibly Vandalized

Residents report trees chopped down mid-trunk in shopping district.

Here’s a bit of sad news for Austin Street that was first posted on Queens Crap last week. One of the street trees in the shopping district was vandalized, cut down mid-trunk and left in the street in front of the TD Ameritrade in the area.

According to the tipster at Queens Crap, the healthy Gingko tree was planted earlier this year before being vandalized. The juvenile tree’s supports remained in place after the top of the tree was chopped off.

According to witnesses, the tree had been struck sometime before 2 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18.

The person reporting the incident also said that another recently-planted Gingko had disappeared completely from the same street, with only a stump remaining.

The vandalism that the tree suffered was similar to another incident that Queens Crap noted in Floral Park.
