MLK Day Celebrated at Central Queens Y

Check out today's program in Forest Hills.

Today at 1:30 p.m., the will be hosting a special Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day event to honor the life and works of arguably the greatest social justice advocate of modern times.

Today Americans honor the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and in Forest Hills, his works will be celebrated at “Martin Luther King: His Message for our Times.”

Led by social worker Joan Adams, this program will highlight the message of the 20th Century civil rights activist and how it remains relevant today.

“His message extended beyond civil rights to an understanding of the relationship between deeply embedded racism, economic inequality and militarism,” Adams wrote on the CQY website. “His famous speech, Beyond Vietnam, foresaw many of the problems facing us today.”

The program, which begins at 1:30 p.m. is $3 for members and $6 for non-members.
