Kubrick Bio Movie Shoots in Forest Hills

Soon-to-be-restored Tea Garden is current site of film shoot on iconic director.

A formerly neglected garden located behind the Forest Hills Inn has been spruced up to look like 1957 Munich for an independent film about the life of director Stanley Kubrick.

The crew of the film “Fidelio” will return to Forest Hills’ Tea Garden on Friday to shoot additional scenes for the movie.

The locally shot sequence will be set in Bavaria, where Kubrick shot “Paths of Glory.” The movie is also filming scenes in Brooklyn and Manhattan.

In recent years, the Tea Garden has fallen into disrepair, but will soon be restored, said Raymond Taylor, general manager of Jade Eatery and Lounge, which is located on the Forest Hills Inn’s first floor.

“There will be a 100 percent restoration to its original condition,” said Taylor, who operates the garden. “Everything will be brought back to its original state. We’ll resume having daytime weddings and occasions back there as we once did.”

The Tea Gardens’ restoration project will include a new gazebo and water fountain.

The start date for the upgrade is contingent on the completion of a project to fix the inn’s roof, which has loose tiles. Currently, scaffolding is going up at the site.

“It’ll be a matter of how long it takes to obtain the necessary materials to complete the project,” Taylor said.
