Great Escape: Collage Aesthetic of Louis Armstrong

A visit to Flushing Town Hall's latest exhibit dedicated to Louis Armstrong.

Most people might not know this, but for years, Louis Armstrong made collages in his spare time while on the road. 

In fact, from large-scale images featuring newspaper clippings, photographs, postcards and more, there's virtually nothing the great jazz legend didn't capture in collage.

And for the past few weeks, Flushing Town Hall has had reproductions of Satchmo's greatest works on display.

Indeed, the 'Collage Aesthetic of Louis Armstrong' exhibit currently on display at the Flushing Town Hall is a walk through the incredible life of a giant.

So for this week's Great Escape, why not take a trip down memory lane sifting through replicas of Louis Armstrong's private collection of mementos.

Flushing Town Hall is located just a few blocks east of Main Street on Northern Boulevard, and the collage exhibit is open to the public on weekends, noon to 5 p.m., from now until December 31, 2013.
