Citizens young and old, volunteers from various organizations, elected officials and members of the New York Police Department came together Tuesday evening in Grand Army Plaza to celebrate National Night Out.

"All around you tonight, you have great working officers of the 78th," said Pauline Blake, president of the 78th Precinct Community Council. "Tonight is a great celebration, let’s celebrate, let's hear it for Brooklyn."

A Journey to Unlock Centuries-Old Doors to Health and Healing

The journey started a week ago, on July 31. Together, three women – a nurse, an herbalist and a photojournalist – set out on a road trip across the southern region of the United States.

Their mission? Recapture the African-American traditions and spiritual practices of natural healing through herbs-- traditions that quietly have been passed down and practiced for centuries throughout the Americas but have little, public documentation.
