Forest Hills Library to Host Two Upcoming Jazz Performances

Branch will host performances by pipa master Min Xiao-Fen and an afternoon of swing, ragtime and jazz.

The Forest Hills Library will host two upcoming jazz performances, including a concert by a pipa master and an afternoon of ragtime and swing tunes.

On Nov. 30, Pipa master Min Xiao-Fen and Blue Pipa Trio members Dean Johnson and Steve Salerno will perform at the library.

Xiao-Fen plays the pipa, sanxian and sings, while Johnson plays bass and Salerno is on the guitar.

The trio will present interpretations of works by jazz trumpeter Buck Clayton and composer Li Jinhui as well as pieces by Count Basie, Duke Ellington and others.

The concert begins at 3 p.m.

And, on Dec. 7 at 2:30 p.m., will hold a performance that combines swing, ragtime and contemporary jazz and includes music by Oscar Peterson, Erroll Garner, Duke Ellington, Billy Taylor and Fats Waller.
