Central Queens Y to Offer Balance Training Class for Seniors

Program to help prevent falls will begin in January.

The Central Queens Y will offer a class in the new year that will help seniors stay on their feet.

The Y, located at 67-09 108th St. in Forest Hills, will kick off its balance training classes on Jan. 7. The 14-week program will be held on Tuesdays in three sections: 11:20 a.m. to 12:20 p.m., 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 1:40 p.m. to 2:40 p.m.

The class is aimed at helping prevent older adults from falling by strengthening muscles and correcting patterns of movement.

The program will enable attendees to improve their balance, posture and gait. Those with walkers and canes should sign up for the third section of the class, which will allow for extra assistance.

The cost for all 14 classes is $81 for Y members and $119 for nonmembers.
