Would You Like To See A Convention Center in Queens?

Plans are being drawn up for the borough's future.

Would you like to see the nation’s largest convention center in Queens? Gov. Andrew Cuomo certainly does, and word is it could be open as soon as 2014 if the plans move forward quickly.

U.S. Rep. Bob Turner, R-Forest Hills, sent Cuomo a letter imploring him to include input from Community Board 10 in any planning for a convention center.

“Queens Community Board 10 is charged by the New York City charter to provide assistance on issues such as land use, budget, and city service delivery issues,” Turner said. “Seeing as they will be responsible for a lot of the issues that arise due to the project, they should be involved in the planning stages. Making sure Community Board 10 and other local stakeholders are involved in the process will only serve to help make this location the best possible convention site.”

In the letter, Turner told the governor he believes the idea “conceptually has merit,” but that the board rightfully has some questions about transportation and traffic.
