A 50-year-old man was struck by a westbound train and killed just west of the station on Tuesday afternoon, according to police. All service at the station was suspended as of 5 p.m. Tuesday evening. The victim has not yet been identified.

Police and fire units responded to the area at roughly 4:30 p.m., along with an emergency services unit.

The train in question originated in Ronkonkoma at 3:11 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive at Penn Station at 4:34 p.m.

Sam Zambuto, a spokesman with the LIRR, said that MTA police were investigating the incident as a possible suicide.

Commuters were re-routed to other stations in the area via the subway, with LIRR tickets being honored for both westbound and some eastbound travel because of disruptions.
