Halloran Trails Meng by 3 Points in Internal Poll

City Councilman Dan Halloran, the Republican running in New York's New Sixth Congressional District, is hot on the heels of Democrat Grace Meng, if his own polling is to be believed.

An internal poll, released Monday and conducted on behalf of Halloran's campaign, showed the city councilman trailing by a narrow three point margin in the race for the Sixth District.

The poll, which called 300 voters over the phone, gave Meng a 36-33 lead, within the nearly six percent margin of error. Thirty percent of respondents were undecided.

The poll also gave Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney a three-point lead over President Barack Obama in the district, 46-43.

Meng's campaign spokesman Austin Finan said he was deeply skeptical of the Halloran campaign's polling.

"Leave it to Dan Halloran to release a tailor-made poll," Finan said. "This 'poll' is nothing more than a desperate attempt on behalf of the Halloran campaign to raise money from its far right, radical Tea Party base of support. Once again, Dan Halloran just makes things up and expects no one to question him."

Finan added that Meng's campaign polling gave the Democrat a healthy 51-22 lead.
