Forest Hills Blockbuster Video Closing

Chain has fallen on hard times, will close retail outlets across the country.

Thelocation on 70th Road in Forest Hills will be permanently closing its doors next month, yet another business that will be leaving Forest Hills largest shopping strip. The once-giant video rental chain has been savaged in recent years by an increase in availablity of online video streaming and delivery from Netflix and in-store rental kiosks.

The store, which is currently festooned with banners and signs announcing the closure, will remain open until April 9. The outlet has also stopped renting videos to patrons, and is selling off all of its DVD, Blu-Ray and video game stock.

In addition to the discs that are available for sale, the store is also selling fixtures including shelving units, office supplies, decorations and more.

A poster on the wall indicates what is for sale currently and what's already gone.

Printers, shredders and more have already been picked clean at the location, as have many of the store's wall decorations. As of this publication, the store was working to sell a gumball vending machine for more than $300.

The Forest Hills store's closing is one of more than 175 closures planned in the first quarter of this year, according to published reports.
