During NY Visit, Obama Dinged By Local GOP

Halloran, Turner tell President to stop using NYC as a campaign "piggy bank."

President Barack Obama made a campaign pit-stop in New York City Monday and got a cool reception from some of Queens more influential Republican legislators.

Obama was reportedly in town to headline a trio of fundraisers with former President Clinton.

As is par for the course on presidential visits to the city, the arrival of Obama meant traffic snarls on the streets and in the skies.

City Councilman Dan Halloran, R-Bayside, was quick to point out that the president was unlikely to see much of Queens beyond the airport where Air Force One lands.

"I ask the President to take time away from his busy schedule raising thousands to actually address the issues that New York City faces,” Halloran said. "We need your attention on the days when you aren’t raising millions of dollars here.”

U.S. Rep. Bob Turner, R-Forest Hills, was none-too-pleased with the president's visit either, saying New Yorkers give more to the federal government than they get back in return every year.

"[Obama] treats this state like a cash machine at election time after ignoring us for the past three years," Turner said. "The people of our state are overtaxed and overregulated and before any New Yorker gives another red cent to Mr. Obama, they should ask him why we are forced to pay more and get less in return."
